Interviewing Martriana P.S. the lecturer

Today I'm going to interview the lecturer Martriana P.S. who is a friend of my mom. Maybe you can learn something from this interview. Enjoy!!

1. What is your job?

My job is a lecturer of communications dept at Fakultas Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Pancasila. I have been working there since 2007, as the assistant founder with my professor from university of Indonesia. 

A lecturer is someone who teaches students to achieve their academic skills and experiences in communications studies.

2. Why did you choose to have that job?

Actually I never choose this job, a friend of mine suggested me to assist my professor to build the faculty in Universitad Pancasila. My background education studied in communications from Universitas Gadjah Mada (S1) and master degree from Universitas Indonesia. Before I worked as a marketing communication in printed media (the Jakarta post, mo, etc.). So my educations and experiences were in line with the job now as a lecturer.

3. Since when do you have that job?

As a lecturer since 2007. I teach politics, media politics, media society, consumer behavior, marketing communications and others. 

4. What are the challenges of being a lecturer?

Everyday is a challenge, because a lecturer has to deal with students with many different backgrounds, capabilities and perspectives. Sometimes students think that they have education because they only need the degree not the knowledge, skill and experiences.To increase lack of motivation is very challenging.

To be a lecturer I also have to do research and community services. So I have to encourage myself to be discipline to write also to read and to do research.

5. Do you already feel successful at your job?

To be honest, success is not my goal, the process is that I have to enjoy. Because as a working mom, I also have a job to do with my kids as my premier considerations. 

I have achieved to manage faculty in 2009 - 2012 as a vice dean for students. Since 2013, I have certified as a lecturer and now in progress to raise my academic stratification as a lecturer. Also planning to continue my education in Ph.D.
